Cellar Door is a culinary consulting firm that strives to make fine dining accessible to everyone. They are the dynamic individuals behind Restaurant Week India, Chef’s Table Week and the kitchens of Masterchef India. Having established themselves within the culinary event industry, they decided that it was time for their identity to reflect their belief system.

BRIEF

The folks at Cellar Door spoke about dining being a journey, and good food as being able to transport you. They felt their new logo needed to exude this feeling and be classic rather than overtly stylised. We needed to create a symbol that was subtle, yet filled with meaning. It would need to reflect a brand that had come into its own, while staying true to the founders’ passions and values.

SOLUTION

The brief paired with the name “Cellar Door” evoked themes from classic childhood tales of fantasy, like Alice in Wonderland, and the Secret Garden – of gateways to life changing experiences. We drew inspiration from plating principles and vegetable anatomy (balance & symmetry), heritage architecture (a foundation with substance) and the idea of a portal or passage (the start of a journey). The task ahead of us was to anchor all these values and give them context within the brand.

Gradually a conceptual monogram began to seamlessly take form, shaped by these values, but still clear enough to be associated with the brand. It was crafted to be used with various culinary textures and imagery, as the company would undoubtedly require. The final symbol became a strong and identifiable mark for the brand and everything it stands for.
